Interior Department to Join Representative Lois Capps at Public Meeting to Hear Community's Vision for Conservation on the California Coast - Archive

CAMBRIA, Calif. – On Friday, Sept. 16, Bureau of Land Management Director Neil Kornze will join Representative Lois Capps and California Natural Resources Secretary John Laird, as well as other federal, state, local and tribal officials, to hear comments on the management of public lands on the California coast, and proposed California Coastal National Monument expansion.

At the invitation of U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) and Representatives Lois Capps (CA-24), Anna Eshoo (CA-18) and Jared Huffman (CA-02), Director Kornze will attend a public meeting to listen to members of the community and their vision for the management of public lands on the California coast, including the legislative proposal to expand the California Coastal National Monument to include the Piedras Blancas Light Station Outstanding Natural Area in San Luis Obispo County, Lighthouse Ranch and Trinidad Head in Humboldt County, Rocks and Islands in Orange County, the Cotoni-Coast Dairies in Santa Cruz County and Lost Coast Headlands.

The California Coastal National Monument protects thousands of off-shore rocks, reefs, islands, and pinnacles which, beyond providing stunning scenery, serve as a haven for seabirds and marine mammals.
