Interior Secretary to Teach a Washington D.C. Elementary School Class at Parkview Elementary School - Archive

WASHINGTON, D.C.-As part of educating youth about the importance of America's Great Outdoors, Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar will participate in the D.C. Region's Teach for America Week 2010 by serving as a guest teacher at Bruce Monroe at Parkview Elementary School. Salazar will join Teach for America corps member Will Herman in his fourth grade classroom to discuss the importance of conservation and environmental stewardship.

Teach For America is the national corps of top recent college graduates who commit to teach for at least two years in urban and rural underserved public schools and become lifelong leaders in the effort to expand educational opportunities. Teach For America's network includes 7,300 current corps members teaching in 35 regions and more than 17,000 alumni.

This year, over 400 Teach For America corps members are teaching approximately 20,000 students in schools across the D.C. Region
