The U.S. Census Bureau hosted a Virtual Data Summit aimed at celebrating open innovation for everyone.
The Opportunity Project (TOP) Summit: Open Innovation for All was a virtual conference for the industries tech leaders hosted by the U.S. Census Bureau’s Census Open Innovation Labs (COIL) on Monday, Dec. 13.
“TOP is a collaborative effort of government agencies, technology companies, start-ups, students and NGOs to translate open data into user-centered tools that solve real-world problems for families, communities and businesses nationwide. This year marks the sixth anniversary of TOP," said the Census Bureau in a press release.
The summit was held over the course of three days and included keynote speeches, lightning talks, discussions on government innovation, open data strategy and technology for good from a wide variety of industry tech leaders. It also featured over 45 new products from industry collaborators such as Esri, Google, Amazon Web Services, Morehouse College and many others that rely on federal open data to solve real-world problems, according to the press release.
Also highlighted in the summit were an awards ceremony for the winners of The Open Data for Good Grand Challenge, hands-on learning sessions and roundtable discussions on topics such as the importance of partnerships with historically black colleges and universities, data equity, diversity of thought and language inclusion.
