1080 notices published in 2021 by Transportation Department

There were 1,080 notices published by the Transportation Department in 2021, according to the Federal Register.

The most recent notice, Transportation Research and Development Strategic Plan; Request for Information, was submitted on Dec. 30, 2021.

The Transportation Department published 1,038 the year before, marking a four percent increase.

The most notices were published in June with 175, while August saw the fewest notices published with 59.

The Department handles nearly all infrastructure crisscrossing the country. Downsizing the Federal Government, a project aimed at lowering taxes and boosting federal efficiency, said the Department should be privatized to save money, reduce congestion and spur innovation.

Notices are required documents detailing rules and regulations being proposed by each federal department. This allows the public to see what issues legislators and federal departments are focusing on.

Any person or organization can comment on the proposed rules. Departments and agencies must then address “significant issues raised in comments and discuss any changes made,” the Federal Register says.
