The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) recently announced that it is currently conducting outreach and enforcement operations in Arkansas following cleanup operations that were launched in response to tornados that tore through the state on Dec. 10, 2021.
According to the press release, Wage and Hour Division and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) response teams have been deployed to the affected region to remind workers of their rights and to make sure employers understand their responsibilities when it comes to paying workers properly.
In-person assistance was scheduled for Jan. 6 and Wage and Hour enforcement actions are scheduled to begin on Monday, Jan. 10.
The Wage and Hour Division seeks to promote and achieve compliance with labor standards to protect and enhance the welfare of the nation's workforce. The agency enforces federal minimum wage, overtime pay, record keeping, and child labor requirements of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
Established by the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's (OSHA) mission is to ensure safe and healthy working conditions for workers by setting and enforcing standards and by providing training, outreach, education and assistance.
Both departments are administered by the U.S. Department of Labor.
