Louisiana residents affected by 2021's Hurricane Ida can still go to the Disaster Recovery Center in the Montegut Recreation Center for help, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has announced.

The agency announced Jan. 5 that the disaster-recovery center will remain open to assist residents with disaster assistance applications, pending applications for disaster relief, uploading documents and answering questions about federal disaster assistance at the center, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced Jan. 5 on its website.

Although the deadline has passed to file for federal disaster aid for Hurrican Ida, the agency is still processing applications submitted before the deadline. Residents can request updates on their filed applications as well as appeal denied requests at the center, FEMA states. Agency workers can help determine if additional documentation, such as proof of ownership and occupancy, is needed for FEMA to approve an application, according to the announcement.

The Montegut Center FEMA disaster-recovery center is located at Montegut Recreation Center, 106 Dolphin Street, Montegut, La. All FEMA centers adhere to COVID-19 precautions; masks are required, the announcement states.
