Stephanie Carman has been selected as the new district manager for BLM Eastern States’ Northeastern States District. Ms. Carman reported to duty on Dec. 20.
“Stephanie brings impressive skills to the table,” said BLM Eastern States State Director Mitchell Leverette. “She is a BLM veteran, has a strong background in managing public lands and I have no doubt she will do a spectacular job.”
Prior to joining the agency, Ms. Carman worked as the Aquatic Species Recovery Plan Coordinator for the New Mexico Department of Game & Fish. She began working for the BLM in 2010 as the BLM Headquarters’ National Fish Program Biologist, eventually becoming the Fisheries and Aquatic Resources National Program Lead in 2016. While working at headquarters, Ms. Carman also had stints as a Legislative Affairs Specialist and as the National Sage-Grouse Strategy Project Coordinator. Most recently, she served as the BLM Northeastern States Associate District Manager. She holds a bachelor’s degree in biology and a master’s degree in aquatic ecology from Loyola University Chicago. Ms. Carman is currently working towards a master’s degree in library science from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She enjoys kayaking, gardening, yoga and volunteering at hospice.
“It is an honor to be the BLM Northeastern States District Manager,” Carman said. “I work with a fantastic team and am privileged to lead them in providing balanced public lands stewardship for all of our constituents.”
A swearing-in ceremony for Ms. Carman will be scheduled in the spring.
The Northeastern States District is responsible for managing public lands and subsurface mineral estate in 20 states east of and bordering the Mississippi River, which includes Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
