Marshals nab Reading man near Harrisburg

A Reading, PA, man who was on the run for about a month was caught in a town just west of Harrisburg, PA.

The U.S. Marshals Service’s Fugitive Task Force captured Justin Santiago in Enola in mid-January.

“The U.S. Marshals Service recognizes the importance of working with state and local police agencies to bring those charged with serious crimes to justice as quickly as possible,” U.S. Marshal Martin J. Pane announced in a release. “In this way the Marshals Service contributes to the overall public safety of our communities.” 

Santiago was wanted in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred in the 300 block of Church Street in in Reading on Dec. 10, the release said. Investigators looked into the case and uncovered evidence that pointed to Santiago as the suspect. 

They obtained an arrest warrant for him on Dec. 21. The charges included second-degree murder and lesser offenses.

Authorities could not find him after the warrant was issued, the Marshals' release said.

On Jan. 13, the Fugitive Task Force arrested Santiago in Enola without incident. Santiago was booked by and was in the custody of the East Pennsboro Township Police Department, where he was held for arraignment.

The task force for the region includes 21 state, county and local police agencies.
