INHOFE SAYS, “SIXTY DAY EXTENSION IS A CALL TO ACTION” Must work to finish six-year highway bill as soon as possible

The following press release was published by the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Work on Feb. 27, 2004. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON, DC - Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.), Chairman of the Environment & Public Works Committee, called upon the House of Representatives to finish their work on S. 1072, the Safe Accountable, Flexible, and Efficient Transportation Equity Act (SAFETEA) following Senate passage today of a sixty-day extension of the current act.

“Today's extension is a call to action for our colleagues in the House to wrap up their business on the highway bill as quickly as possible so we can enact a six year transportation bill for the American people," Inhofe said. “The Senate passed bill is estimated to create nearly 2.8 million job opportunities and it is critically needed in this time of economic recovery in our nation. The bill is fully funded through the highway trust fund. It is past time to move this legislation forward. This last extension should be more than enough time for work on it to be completed."
