BACKGROUND: The deadly bridge collapse in Minnesota on August 1st spotlights the urgent need to focus on America's bridges and other critical transportation infrastructure to prevent such catastrophic failures in the future. U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, will receive a field briefing Wednesday in Sacramento to hear from California leaders on the condition of the state's critical transportation infrastructure and its future infrastructure needs. Senator Boxer will also be convening oversight hearings on national infrastructure priorities when she returns to Washington in September.
