Washington, DC - U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, today made the following remarks regarding the international meetings on global warming being held today in Washington, DC:
Senator Boxer said: “I wrote to the President twice earlier this year to ask him to call world leaders together to address the challenge of global warming. When I met with European leaders this week we agreed that U.S. leadership on this issue is critically important, but bringing the world's leaders together will only move us forward if this week's talks lead to concrete, mandatory action to reduce global warming pollution."
“For years we have heard next to nothing from this Administration on global warming. Now their rhetoric has improved, but there is still no meaningful action from the President. On the eve of his speech, I call on the President Bush to finally embrace the tools we need to get the job done - cap-and-trade and mandatory caps on global warming pollution."
