Washington, DC - United States Senator Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, released the following statement on the adoption of the "Bali Roadmap" at United Nations Climate Change Conference in Indonesia.
Senator Boxer said, "The news from Bali is that the nations of the world reached consensus on a path forward, and the door has been left open to a serious agreement with mandatory reductions in global warming emissions down the road. The Bush Administration could have played a more constructive role in the negotiations, but did not come to Bali prepared to acknowledge the need for mandatory cuts in greenhouse gas emissions. Momentum is building at every level in the United States for strong action to address global warming. The U.S. must be a leader if the world is to be successful in avoiding the most dangerous effects of climate change."
