Boxer Statement on Bush White House Interference in Waiver Decision

The following news release was published by the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Work on May 19, 2008. It is reproduced in full below.

Washington, DC - U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, today made the following remarks regarding a memo from the House Oversight and Government Affairs Committee that found evidence of White House influence in the Environmental Protection Agency's denial of California's request for a waiver to address global warming pollution from vehicles:

Senator Boxer said: "Clearly the Bush Administration at the highest levels killed the California waiver. The people of California and the other states have a right to know how this indefensible decision happened, and we demand that EPA and the Bush White House turn over the documents we have asked for immediately."
