Washington, D.C. - Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA), Chairman of the Environment and Public Works Committee, released the following statement after the Senate and the House of Representatives passed her bill to designate the headquarters of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), located at 1200 Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, D.C., as the "William Jefferson Clinton Federal Building." The legislation will now go to President Obama to be signed into law.
Senator Boxer said: "Throughout his Presidency, Bill Clinton demonstrated a strong commitment to protecting public health and the environment. President Clinton's administration created the Office of Children's Health Protection, tightened drinking water standards for toxins such as arsenic, and reduced harmful air pollution that causes heart attacks, strokes, and premature deaths. He has continued to champion the environment by creating the Clinton Global Initiative, which helps communities around the world tackle challenges like energy efficiency and climate change.
"President Clinton not only protected the environment, which saved thousands of lives, he also maintained a strong economy and created jobs. Naming the EPA headquarters is a fitting way to honor his legacy."
