Washington, D.C. -- Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA), Chairman of the Environment and Public Works Committee, issued the following statement about findings released today by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) showing that average global temperatures for 2012 were among the ten warmest on record.

Senator Boxer said: "Rising global temperatures documented by NASA and NOAA make clear that the earth is warming and the trend is going in the wrong direction. We cannot afford to ignore these warnings and must make plans to address this serious threat. The health and well-being of our communities and families depends on it."
