Washington, D.C. - Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA), Chairman of the Environment and Public Works Committee, released a statement after a U.S. Court of Appeals upheld the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) standards for mercury and other hazardous pollutants in a 2-1 ruling.
Senator Boxer said: "Today's ruling is a win for children and families who deserve to have clean air to breathe. The mercury and air toxics standards are critical public health safeguards that reduce deadly air pollution. These standards developed by EPA will require some of the nation's biggest polluters, coal- and oil-burning power plants, to cut emissions because they pose a significant health risk to the American people."
