Vitter, Issa to Brenner: Beale Investigation Far From Closed

The following press release was published by the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Work on May 5, 2014. It is reproduced in full below.

U.S. Sen. David Vitter (R-La.), top Republican on the Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee, and U.S. Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), Chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform (OGR), sent a letter to Robert Brenner, former senior official at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and colleague of John Beale, former EPA employee and convicted felon. Vitter and Issa's letter follows up on an April 7, 2014, letter requesting Beale-related documents from Brenner, from which Brenner's legal counsel refused to cooperate with the joint EPW and OGR investigation.

"It is not the role of your paid counsel to determine the scope of a Congressional investigation," wrote Vitter and Issa. "The joint investigation has only heightened the need for Congress to investigate your relationship with Beale and your actions at EPA. As such, if you continue to refuse to voluntarily cooperate with this investigation, OGR will be forced to consider the use of compulsory process to obtain this information."

The OGR and EPW Committees have been conducting a joint investigation into the details surrounding Beale's fraud.
