Today, U.S. Sen. David Vitter (R-La.), top Republican on the Environment and Public Works Committee, sent a letter to the Honorable Angela Merkel, Chancellor of Germany, in which he commends Germany's efforts to lift its ban on hydraulic fracturing, and warns of environmental activist attacks. Vitter also notes the watchful eye being kept on Europe's failures with policies now being pushed by President Obama's Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and copied the President on his letter.
"Despite the Obama Administration's attempts to demonize and shut down hydraulic fracturing in the United States, for years now it has been one of the only bright spots in America's economy," said Vitter. "Creating stable jobs, increasing economic competitiveness, and moving toward energy independence, is a very commendable leadership trait, and I hope our Administration sees this as a wake-up call."
Following the United Kingdom's decision to allow hydraulic fracturing, in December 2012, Vitter sent a letter to President Obama urging him to reconsider the administration's campaign against hydraulic fracturing.
