Senator Boxer’s Statement on Senate Passage of Republican Resolution that Attacks the Clean Water Act

The following news release was published by the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Work on Nov. 4, 2015. It is reproduced in full below.

Washington, D.C. -- Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA), Ranking Member of the Environment and Public Works Committee, issued the statement below after the Senate passed S.J. Res. 22, a Congressional Review Act resolution introduced by Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA), which would block the Obama administration's Clean Water Rule. Today's vote (53 to 44) came only one day after Senate Democrats defeated S. 1140, a bill introduced by Senator John Barrasso (R-WY), which would have undermined the Clean Water Act.

Senator Boxer said: “Senate Republicans continue to attack our landmark environmental laws, and this resolution would weaken the Clean Water Act - putting our children and families at risk because it takes away protections for drinking water for one in three Americans or 117 million people. I support the President's plan to veto this harmful legislation."
