Inhofe Statement on the Conferees Named to the Transportation Reauthorization Bill

WASHINGTON - U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.), chairman of the U.S. Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee, released the following statement after Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) announced the Senate Republicans appointed to participate in the conference committee that will negotiation the final long-term surface transportation bill:

“The Members serving on this conference committee have a strong record of recognizing Congress' constitutional responsibility to maintain and advance our nation's surface transportation infrastructure. I look forward to working together in a bipartisan fashion to send a long-term transportation reauthorization bill to the president's desk by Thanksgiving. With this historic piece of legislation, Congress can end a wasteful cycle of short-term extensions and help to put America back on the map as the best place to do business. "

The following Senate Republican conferees named are:

Senator Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.), chairman of the Senate Committee on Environmental and Public Works

Senator John Thune (R-S.D.), chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation

Senator Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), chairman of the Senate Finance Committee

Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), chairman of the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources

Senator Deb Fischer (R-Neb.), chairman of the Subcommittee on Surface Transportation and Merchant Marine Infrastructure, Safety, and Security of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation

Senator John Barrasso (R-Wyo.), chairman of the Senate Republican Policy Committee, and member of the Senate Committee on Environmental and Public Works

Senator John Cornyn (R-Texas), senate majority whip, member of the Senate Finance Committee
