Washington, D.C. -- Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA), Ranking Member of the Environment and Public Works Committee, issued the following statement after the U.S. Supreme Court refused to block the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) rule to limit mercury, arsenic, and other toxic pollution released from coal-fired power plants.
Senator Boxer said: “It is a great relief that the Supreme Court decided that we can protect our families from the dangers of mercury and other harmful toxins that are emitted from power plants. EPA's landmark rule is a critical public health safeguard that reduces toxic air pollution, including mercury, arsenic, chromium, and acid gases, which can cause brain damage in children, cancer, and respiratory illnesses."
