WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, Senator John Barrasso (R-WY), chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works (EPW), issued the following statement in response to reports the administration plans to unveil a series of steps to change biofuel mandates under the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS).
The EPW Committee has jurisdiction over the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), which administers the RFS.
“The administration should pursue policies that help both American farmers and refinery workers," said Barrasso. “It shouldn't favor one group over the other. By increasing the amount of ethanol blended into our fuel, we risk closing refineries and killing thousands of jobs. Across the country, refineries help grow our economy, boost energy production, and support local communities. We can do better. We don't need to punish refinery workers to help our farmers."
