EPA celebrates 'critical' Pesticide Safety Awareness Month

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is expanding their pesticide outreach and education program in order to meet the needs of pesticide applicators in a better way.

This is being done through National Pesticide Safety Education Month (February), which is currently being promoted by the EPA's leadership.

“The EPA is pleased to participate in National Pesticide Safety Education Month because providing tailored resources for farmworkers and other pesticide applicators is critical for ensuring that pesticides are responsibly used,” Ya-Wei (Jake) Li, EPA Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention deputy assistant administrator for Pesticide Programs, said in an EPA press release.

The goal of National Pesticide Safety Education Month is to promote awareness for pesticide safety education and also to share the best practices for using pesticides safely in and around a person's home. This is the fifth straight year that National Pesticide Safety Awareness Month is being celebrated, with the yearly celebration starting back in 2018. National Pesticide Safety Awareness Month is only one action the EPA is taking, with the organization also fighting to protect against the impacts of pesticides throughout the rest of the year, according to an EPA press release.

Agricultural workers and those who handle pesticides are two of the target audiences for these events.
