'Target those who seek to prey on the young': Former Guam National Guard soldier sentenced to federal prison for attempted enticement of a minor

A former Guam Army National Guard Soldier has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for the attempted enticement of a minor.

In a press release from Feb. 4, the United States Attorney for the Districts of Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands announced that 31-year old Christopher De Leon Guerrero, a National Guard soldier, has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for trying to seduce a minor.

“Our Project Safe Childhood initiative continues to target those who seek to prey on the young and vulnerable," said US Attorney Shawn Anderson according to the press release. "The success of this priority program is due to the outstanding working relationships among our federal agencies. We applaud their efforts."

Phone data collected found that from Nov. 17, 2020, through Nov. 20, 2020, Guerrero was using his cell phone to send messages through Whatsapp and Whispr to whom he believed was a 13-year-old female. However, Guerrero was actually communicating with an undercover law enforcement agent.

Following a series of sexually explicit messages, the defendant had planned to meet at the minor’s house, located on Andersen Air Force Base, believing the minor would be home alone. The defendant then purchased food and a box of condoms arriving at the minor's house where he was met by federal law enforcement agents, according to the press release.

This case was part of the Project Safe Childhood (PSC) initiative, a nationwide initiative by the US Department of Justice to prosecute people who engage in the sexual victimization of children, possess, or receive child pornography, and fail to register as sex offenders.
