USDA launches a mobile app to help create 'more resilient and transparent markets'

The U.S. Department of Agriculture launched the USDA Market News mobile app on Feb. 1, which provides food producers and other members of the supply chain with vital market information.

The app provides current and historical market information, with approximately 800 market reports on various commodities such as livestock, poultry and grain, the USDA reported in a release. App updates will add more commodities as the year continues.

"USDA is focused on building more resilient and transparent markets and is taking steps to promote competition and fairer prices from farmers to consumers," Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said in the release. "This new Market News app helps create a more level playing field for small and medium producers by delivering critical market information to them where they are, when they need it."

The app boasts a variety of simple-to-use features, the USDA reported. Users will be able to search markets based on state, their area or by commodity. They can also favorite, share and subscribe to market reports. Users may also choose to get notified the moment a market report is published.

The USDA Market News app is available for download on both Apple's and Google's app stores.
