WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Pat Roberts, R-Kan., Chairman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry, today released the following statement after Trans-Pacific Partnership negotiations concluded this morning in Atlanta, Ga.
“Trans-Pacific Partnership negotiations are now complete, and I look forward to taking a hard look at the details to determine if the trade deal will be beneficial to American agriculture and the Kansas economy," said Chairman Roberts.
“It is imperative that this trade pact opens new international markets for the folks back home. They are my number one priority."
“It is my hope that a final agreement meets the needs of the broad agriculture industry. While increased market access for industries like beef and wheat will be essential, I want to ensure that this deal is the best deal possible for all of our farmers and ranchers."
Chairman Roberts has long been a staunch supporter of opening and maintaining international markets for America’s agriculture producers. Nearly one in five jobs in the U.S. depend on trade, and nearly one-third of farm income is based on foreign exports.
