Ranking Member Stabenow Statement on Northey Confirmation

The following press release was published by the U.S. Senate Committee On Agriculture, Nutrition, & Forestry on Feb. 27, 2018. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.), Ranking Member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, & Forestry issued the following statement in response to the U.S. Senate confirmation of Bill Northey to serve as Under Secretary of Agriculture for Farm and Foreign Agricultural Services.

“While his confirmation is long overdue, I am pleased that Mr. Northey can finally serve our farmers and ranchers at USDA. I strongly supported Mr. Northey’s nomination and I look forward to working with him to strengthen American agriculture."

The Senate Agriculture Committee reported Northey’s nomination to the floor on October 19 with unanimous bipartisan support. For over four months, Northey’s nomination has been held by a Republican Senator. Ranking Member Stabenow worked across the aisle in support of Northey’s confirmation. Earlier this month, she joined a bipartisan group of Senators on the Senate floor to call for his confirmation.
