WASHINGTON, DC - House Energy and Commerce Chairman Fred Upton (R-MI), Energy and Power Subcommittee Chairman Ed Whitfield (R-KY), and Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee Chairman Cliff Stearns (R-FL) called on the Environmental Protection Agency today to provide information on its current and proposed rules to regulate greenhouse gases.
Earlier this year, Energy and Commerce Committee leaders requested information specifically related to the agency’s implementation of New Source Performance Standards (NSPS) for sources that emit greenhouse gases. Today’s letter seeks additional information on EPA’s plans to regulate greenhouse gases, including the agency’s new permitting requirements and proposed emissions standards for cars and trucks. The committee also seeks further details regarding the agency’s development of its initial GHG rules and Endangerment Finding.
This continuing investigation will provide a greater understanding of the Obama EPA’s current and forthcoming greenhouse gas regulations, which have the potential to significantly and adversely impact jobs, energy prices, and America’s global competiveness.
Earlier this year, the U.S. House of Representatives gave bipartisan approval to the Energy Tax Prevention Act (H.R. 910), legislation first proposed in the Energy and Commerce Committee to protect jobs and block harmful energy price increases by preventing the Obama administration from regulating greenhouse gases under the Clean Air Act.
