WASHINGTON, DC - One year ago today, President Obama stood in front of a pile of steel pipes in Cushing, Oklahoma, and endorsed the southern leg of the Keystone XL pipeline, calling for action to cut red tape and make the project a priority. But despite taking credit for this fraction of the pipeline’s construction that did not need presidential approval, the president refuses to approve the permit needed for construction of the entire project. The president proclaims a desire to keep the energy jobs of tomorrow in the United States and claims to support an “all-of-the-above" energy strategy, but still has yet to say “yes" to the landmark jobs and energy project.
Highlighting President Obama’s visit to Cushing one year ago, the House Energy and Commerce Committee today released a new video calling on the president to approve the Keystone XL pipeline and embrace its $7 billion of private investment, energy security, and thousands of jobs.
It has now been 1,645 days since the Keystone XL application was first filed with the U.S. State Department. It is time for the president to approve Keystone XL and finally fulfill his commitment to jobs and American energy made during his visit to Cushing. It’s #TimeToBuild the Keystone XL pipeline.
