WASHINGTON, DC - Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade Subcommittee Chairman Lee Terry (R-NE) next week will travel to Charleston, South Carolina, to highlight the region’s success in our evolving Nation of Builders. Terry’s visit will include a tour of the Boeing manufacturing plant in North Charleston where sections of the Boeing Dreamliner 787 are assembled, a manufacturing roundtable with 15 local South Carolinian manufacturers, and a tour of the Port of Charleston, the nation’s fourth busiest container port.
Chairman Terry, along with representatives from the National Association of Manufacturers and a local manufacturer, will be available for a media conference call on Monday afternoon to highlight the importance of manufacturing to the region and efforts to bolster this vital sector of America’s economy. The tour is a part of the subcommittee’s ongoing Nation of Builders initiative to help strengthen American manufacturing and create jobs.

BACKGROUND
The subcommittee kicked off the Nation of Builders initiative with a manufacturing showcase to highlight the broad range of products made in Energy and Commerce Committee members’ districts. Chairman Terry has held a number of hearings this year to examine the state of manufacturing and trade policy in America, reviewing the impacts on key industries such as steel, automobiles, energy development, and homebuilding. The subcommittee will continue its review of manufacturing in America as it works to improve the climate for business and job growth.
