WASHINGTON, DC - The U.S. House of Representatives today voted to approve H.R. 1900, the Natural Gas Pipeline Permitting Reform Act, by a bipartisan vote of 252 to 165. Authored by Rep. Mike Pompeo (R-KS), this bill will make commonsense reforms to the permitting process for interstate natural gas pipelines, setting reasonable deadlines for review and holding agencies more accountable. By eliminating needless delays and creating greater regulatory certainty, the bill will help increase access to affordable and reliable energy, create jobs, and address the current shortage of infrastructure that has led to price spikes in several areas of the country.
“This is a real issue with real consequences for jobs in America and for average working families across our country. The bill will give certainty to natural gas pipeline developers that invest in projects which could transport affordable energy to consumers all across the nation," said Pompeo.
“H.R. 1900 is a commonsense bill that will help build the architecture of abundance that we need to fully realize the benefits of our American energy boom," said House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Fred Upton (R-MI). “Congress should be doing everything possible to reduce red tape and delays in building safe and efficient natural gas pipelines to bring our infrastructure up to modern times to reflect our energy abundance. This bill is an important step in the right direction."
