WASHINGTON, DC - The House Committee on Energy and Commerce today announced its hearing and vote schedule for the week of Jan. 13, 2014. The committee will continue its oversight of the president’s health care law, hold its opening hearing on the #CommActUpdate, and vote on legislation to help keep American electricity affordable and reliable.
On Monday, Jan. 13, the Subcommittee on Energy and Power will begin a markup of H.R. 3826, the Electricity Security and Affordability Act. Authored by subcommittee Chairman Ed Whitfield (R-KY) and Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV), this bipartisan legislation offers a reasonable alternative to the Environmental Protection Agency’s proposed greenhouse gas standards for new power plants and the agency’s planned regulations for existing power plants. The subcommittee will reconvene on Tuesday, Jan. 14, to vote on the legislation. A background memo, amendments, and votes will be available on the Energy and Commerce Committee’s website here as they are posted.
On Wednesday, Jan. 15, the Subcommittee on Communications and Technology will hold its first hearing focused on the #CommActUpdate. Members will hear from former chairmen of the Federal Communications Commission as they assess how the Communications Act functions in today’s communications and technology sectors.as they are posted.
On Thursday, Jan. 16, the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations will receive testimony from Gary Cohen, Deputy Administrator and Director of the Center for Consumer Information and Insurance Oversight at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. This is the first testimony from Cohen before our committee following HealthCare.gov’s botched rollout. Members will again have the opportunity to seek #ObamacareAnswers from Cohen about the decisions made throughout the implementation of this law that led to broken promises and a broken website, as well as what is next.as they are posted.
