WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Fred Upton (R-MI) issued the following statement this evening following President Obama’s State of the Union address:
“We face great challenges as a nation, but now is the time to come together, not go it alone, in the effort to create jobs and boost the middle class. We must strive to build upon recent bipartisan success to keep our recovery moving forward in Michigan and the nation. Affordable American-made energy, a robust manufacturing and rejuvenated automotive sector, and innovative health care solutions are all touchstones for growth and advancement.
“We are a nation blessed with many resources, and with the right all-of-the-above energy policies, America can be a source for opportunity, action, and optimism. Building the architecture of abundance and saying yes to widely supported projects like the Keystone pipeline will help create jobs today and keep energy affordable tomorrow.
“The president has signed a number of Energy and Commerce Committee bills into law in recent weeks, including several to improve public health. We look toward building upon that proud record of success as we await action on over 20 committee bills that have passed the House with bipartisan support and now sit on the Senate’s doorstep. Bills that will protect and create jobs as well as modernize government for the innovation era.
“Washington does not always know best. We should look toward our governors and states like Michigan who are in the midst of a welcome and overdue revival."
