WASHINGTON, DC - The House Energy and Commerce Committee today advanced two energy efficiency bills by voice vote. The bills advanced today have strong bipartisan support and will facilitate energy and cost savings in our nation’s federal buildings and schools.
H.R. 2689, the Energy Savings Through Public-Private Partnerships Act, authored by Reps. Cory Gardner (R-CO) and Peter Welch (D-VT), facilitates the use of energy savings contracts to encourage private sector investment to upgrade the energy and water efficiency of federal facilities.
H.R. 4092, the Streamlining Energy Efficiency for Schools Act of 2014, will help our nation’s schools reduce energy costs and save taxpayers money by establishing an online resource at the Department of Energy to disseminate information about available federal programs that can be used to save energy and reduce costs.
“These two commonsense bills continue this committee’s success with energy efficiency legislation," said Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Fred Upton (R-MI). “They will help reduce energy consumption while saving money, creating jobs, and reducing waste. I am proud that our members have been able to work together to advance meaningful energy efficiency legislation, and I look forward to building upon our record of bipartisan success with a strong vote on the House floor."
These two bills are the latest in the committee’s record of legislative success in advancing energy efficiency. On March 5, 2014, the House overwhelmingly passed H.R. 2126, the Energy Efficiency Improvement Act of 2014, by a vote of 375 to 36.
