WASHINGTON, DC - House Communications and Technology Subcommittee Chairman Greg Walden (R-OR) and Vice Chairman Bob Latta (R-OH) today responded to the FCC’s release of its annual report on the state of broadband in America.
“This year’s report again shows that broadband Internet access is flourishing across the country and consumers continue to reap the benefits of American innovation and investment," said Walden and Latta. “The evidence continues to mount that the administration’s call for ‘net neutrality’ regulations is grounded in finding solutions for problems that don’t exist."
The leaders continued, “Regulations that dictate how content is handled and networks are managed reduce the incentive to invest in next-generation networks and technologies and tie the hands of companies that wish to experiment with innovative service offerings. As today’s report shows, the networks that are most regulated are beginning to show their age, while lesser-regulated competitors continue to invest to improve the consumer experience. We hope the commission walks away from this report with a healthy skepticism that regulation somehow fosters better Internet service for American consumers. The FCC does not need to take our word that unnecessary regulations are harmful, they just need to take a look at their own report."
