The Subcommittee on Environment and the Economy, chaired by Rep. John Shimkus (R-IL), has scheduled a hearing for Wednesday, July 23, 2014, at 10:00 a.m. in room 2322 of the Rayburn House Office Building. The hearing is entitled “Modernizing the Business of Environmental Regulation and Protection."
Following its review of the role of the states and the federal government in implementing environmental policies, the subcommittee next week will hold a hearing to examine steps to modernize state and federal cooperation to streamline and improve the efficiency of environmental regulation and protection. States and the federal government are facing increasing budget and workforce constraints, and a stronger partnership between the states and EPA could help accomplish mutual environmental goals with fewer resources. Witnesses will include state environmental officials and stakeholders from the regulated community.
