Blackburn Comments On Administration Managing Obamacare Expectations Ahead of Second Open Enrollment Period

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on Nov. 10, 2014. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON, DC - House Energy and Commerce Committee Vice Chairman Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) issued the following statement regarding new expectations from the Department of Health and Human Services for the second open enrollment period under the president’s health care law. The second open enrollment period was delayed from its original start on Oct. 1, 2014, and will now begin this Saturday, Nov. 15, 2014.

“After years of broken promises and a painfully flawed launch, the administration is again trying to rewrite its definition of success for the president’s signature law on the eve of Saturday’s second enrollment. Last year, while cancellation notices were outnumbering new enrollments, the administration completely abandoned enrollment as a measure of success," commented Blackburn. “No matter how you dress it up, bad policy is bad policy. There are still a number of important, unanswered questions including whether or not the back end is built and if the millions of inconsistencies have been resolved. Think about it - here we are over 13 months after HealthCare.gov went live, and we are still asking is the website built? Before administration officials take out the champagne again to celebrate its now downgraded measure of enrollment success, it needs to once and for all be transparent with the American people about the reality of this law."
