WASHINGTON, DC - The House Energy and Commerce Committee today announced its hearing schedule for the week of March 16. Members will continue oversight over the EPA and FCC, and review two discussion drafts aimed at protecting jobs, innovation, and manufacturing.
On Tuesday, the Subcommittee on Energy and Power will examine the legal and cost issues relating to EPA’s proposed carbon dioxide (CO2) rule for existing power plants under section 111(d) of the Clean Air Act, referred to by the agency as the “Clean Power Plan." On Wednesday, the Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade will review draft legislation that aims to tackle the nation’s growing data security threats and challenges. The “Data Security and Breach Notification Act, " authored by full committee Vice Chairman Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) and Rep. Peter Welch (D-VT), is a bipartisan bill that implements a comprehensive plan to help safeguard sensitive consumer information and shield Americans from the harmful consequences of cyber attacks.as they are posted.
Also on Wednesday, the Subcommittee on Environment and the Economy will hold a legislative hearing on a discussion draft of “H.R. ___, the Improving Coal Combustion Residuals Regulation Act of 2015." Authored by Rep. David McKinley (R-WV), this bill builds upon the bipartisan, bicameral work from the 112th and 113th Congresses to establish state-based regulatory programs to ensure the safe management and disposal of coal ash. The bill would incorporate EPA’s final coal ash rule announced in December, and would eliminate any issues associated with the final rule giving states the necessary authority to implement the standards set by EPA.as they are posted.
On Thursday, the Subcommittee on Energy and Power will review legislation on grid-enabled water heaters. H.R. 906, introduced by Rep. Ed Whitfield (R-KY), enables innovative and energy-saving appliances to continue being manufactured and sold by exempting them from regulations under DOE’s new efficiency standards that go into effect in April 2015.as they are posted.
Also on Thursday, the Subcommittee on Communications and Technology will continue its oversight of the Federal Communications Commission. Members will hear from all five FCC commissioners to discuss the commission’s Depression-era rules to regulate the Internet, the FCC’s FY 2016 budget request, and FCC process as part of the committee’s effort to modernize the federal government and reauthorize the commission.as they are posted.
