WASHINGTON, DC - The House Energy and Commerce Committee today announced its hearing and vote schedule for the week of June 15.
On Tuesday, the Subcommittee on Health will review legislation to address problems in the nation’s mental health system uncovered by the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee’s extensive review conducted beginning in 2013. Members will discuss H.R. 2646, the Helping Families in Mental Health Crisis Act, authored by Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee Chairman Tim Murphy (R-PA) and Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson (D-TX).as they are posted.
Also on Tuesday, the Subcommittees on Energy and Power and Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade will hold a joint hearing to examine the effects of the EPA’s proposed ozone regulation on jobs and manufacturing. According to a recent study by the National Association of Manufacturers, these regulations could be EPA’s costliest ever.as they are posted.
Also on Tuesday, the Subcommittee on Communications and Technology will continue its oversight of FirstNet, a nationwide interoperable public safety network for first responders. Members will receive an update on FirstNet’s progress toward building out this public safety network, which was a key recommendation of the 9/11 commission.and witness testimony will be available at the same link as it is posted.
Finally on Tuesday, the Energy and Commerce Committee will begin a markup of the DOTCOM Act, bipartisan legislation to protect the future of the Internet. The legislation, authored by Rep. John Shimkus (R-IL), ensures that Congress continues its oversight role over the administration’s work to transition its Domain Name System authority from the United States to the global Internet community. Members will deliver opening statements on Tuesday and reconvene Wednesday morning to consider the bill. Amendments and votes will be available at the same link as they are posted.
On Thursday, the Subcommittee on Health will discuss the role biotechnology plays on our nation’s farms, food supply, and economy. Members will hear from experts on the safety of foods derived from genetically engineered crops and the need for national review and labeling standards for such products and discuss a draft amendment in the nature of a substitute to H.R. 1599, the Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act authored by Reps. Mike Pompeo (R-KS) and G. K. Butterfield (D-NC).as they are posted.
