#SubHealth to Review Administration’s Management of Medicaid Dollars

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on June 17, 2015. It is reproduced in full below.

The Subcommittee on Health, chaired by Rep. Joe Pitts (R-PA), has scheduled a hearing for Wednesday, June 24, at 10:00 a.m. in room 2123 of the Rayburn House Office Building. The hearing is entitled, “Examining the Administration’s Approval of Medicaid Demonstration Projects."

“Medicaid is a lifeline for some of our nation’s most vulnerable patients. Congress has a duty to ensure that the taxpayer dollars used for Medicaid are spent in a manner that promotes its core objectives and helps our neediest people," said Pitts. “The recent report from the nonpartisan government watchdog again raises serious concerns about the administration’s management and oversight of Medicaid funds. The House, however, will hold the administration accountable, and protect the most vulnerable patients."

A representative of the nonpartisan Government Accountability Office will testify on its most recent work that raises concerns about the lack of transparency, accountability, and consistency in the administration’s spending on Medicaid demonstration programs. Medicaid demonstration projects constitute roughly one third of Medicaid spending.as they are posted.
