Wave of Support (+98) for #Cures2015

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on June 19, 2015. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON, DC - Sixty-five cancer centers from across the country this week joined the growing community of 21st Century Cures supporters. The centers, members of the Association of American Cancer Institutes, write, “Your bipartisan work over the last year to accelerate research and discovery has made an impression on the cancer community and the academic health community at large." The letter continues, “We ask members of the House of Representatives to cosponsor the bill, and we request that House leadership move H.R. 6 to floor consideration as quickly as possible. Thanks to you, your staff, and the Committee for your unwavering commitment to improving the discovery, development, and delivery of cures. We look forward to continuing to work with you toward a future without cancer."

Thirty-three organizations with One Voice Against Cancer also shared their support this week. “On behalf of the millions of researchers, physicians, pharmacists, nurses, patients, and survivors represented by OVAC, we commend your momentous effort to accelerate the pace of medical discovery." Earlier this week, 251 patient groups also wrote to the bipartisan committee members expressing their unified support for H.R. 6.

The 21st Century Cures initiative has truly been nonpartisan - something everyone can and should support. H.R. 6, the 21st Century Cures Act, seeks to promote a patient perspective into health care innovation infrastructure. It provides vital resources to the National Institutes of Health and the Food and Drug Administration to encourage the next generation of research. It removes barriers to embracing 21st century science and technology. It modernizes clinical trials and uses personalized medicine to better measure success and identify diseases earlier.
