The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on July 21, 2015. It is reproduced in full below.

The Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, chaired by Rep. Tim Murphy (R-PA), has scheduled a hearing for Tuesday, July 28, at 10:00 a.m. in room 2123 of the Rayburn House Office Building. The hearing is entitled, “Continuing Concerns with the Federal Select Agent Program: Department of Defense Shipments of Live Anthrax."

Subcommittee members will continue their oversight of the Federal Select Agents Program, focusing particularly on the recent reports regarding the shipments of live anthrax from a Department of Defense laboratory located in Utah, Dugway Proving Ground. Witnesses from the Department of Defense, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Department of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General, and Government Accountability Office will testify.

“Last summer it was anthrax in Ziploc bags. This summer, it’s live anthrax being shipped around the world from Department of Defense laboratories. There is zero margin for error when it comes to handling anthrax and there is zero tolerance for such blunders. This has got to stop," commented subcommittee Chairman Tim Murphy (R-PA) and Ranking Member Diana DeGette (D-CO).as they are posted.
