House Set to Consider Bipartisan Bill to Protect Employees from Higher Health Care Costs

WASHINGTON, DC - The House of Representatives next week will consider H.R. 1624, the Protecting Affordable Coverage for Employees Act, authored by Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee Vice Chairman Brett Guthrie (R-KY). This bill would help protect employees from rising health care costs due to certain requirements under the president’s health care law. The bipartisan legislation, which has more than 200 cosponsors in the House, would also authorize $205 million for the Medicare Improvement Fund, which was cut by the president’s health law.

“It is our duty in Congress to help provide relief to those who are suffering. I am proud to author this commonsense, bipartisan measure to help ensure that American workers are able to keep the health plans they have and like and protect employers from even more unnecessary costs incurred by the president’s health care law," said Guthrie. “In addition to providing hardworking Americans with some health care peace of mind, this bill will put important resources back into the Medicare Improvement Fund. Much more work remains to protect Americans from the broken promises of the health care law and strengthen the Medicare program, but this bill is a good step."

The Health Subcommittee recently held a hearing to review this bipartisan legislation.
