Hearing Notice: Subcommittee on Health

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on Oct. 14, 2015. It is reproduced in full below.

The Subcommittee on Health, chaired by Rep. Joe Pitts (R-PA), has scheduled a hearing for Wednesday, Oct. 21, at 10:15 a.m. in room 2322 of the Rayburn House Office Building. The hearing is entitled, “Examining the Medicare Part D Medication Therapy Management Program."

Subcommittee members will discuss opportunities to strengthen the Medicare Part D Medication Therapy Management (MTM) Program for both patients and for the Part D plans. The program was intended to encourage patients to adhere to their prescriptions more diligently, ultimately reducing the need for additional future care. However, as it functions currently, the program’s incentives are not aligned and adherence to prescriptions is not as strong as possible. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services recently announced plans for a new demonstration program aimed at strengthening the program. As CMS prepares to launch this demonstration program, subcommittee members will take the opportunity to review all possible plans to improve the MTM program so seniors and the plans that cover seniors will both benefit from stronger adherence to prescriptions.as they are posted.
