WASHINGTON, DC - House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Fred Upton (R-MI) and Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade Subcommittee Chairman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. today (R-TX) commented on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s announcement of a coordinated remedy program Takata Airbags.
“We’ve got to get beyond the fits and starts on Takata. This issue has been out there too long," said Upton. “Today’s news underscores that we need more definitive action to protect American drivers."
“Five months since the latest update and nearly a year and a half since the alarm bells were first rung, American consumers finally received the important information necessary to keep their families safe. While this announcement is a welcome step forward, NHTSA, Takata, and the automakers must all work together to ensure the safety and efficacy of the devices being placed in recalled vehicles," added Burgess. “We need to focus on getting people into the repair shops and get these dangerous Takata airbags off our roads."
