WASHINGTON, DC - The Subcommittee on Energy and Power today was joined by the Chairman of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy, Jerzy Buzek and members of the European Parliament in a roundtable discussion about energy policy and security. Earlier this year, bipartisan members of the committee traveled to key energy and policy hubs across Europe where they received an outpouring of support and appreciation from allies who were optimistic about strengthening relationships and working together in the energy sector.
With the U.S. emerging as a major energy superpower, and the committee continuing to work on comprehensive energy reform legislation, today’s roundtable was a pivotal moment for members of the U.S. Congress and the European Parliament. Members discussed opportunities to strengthen our collective energy security, lower energy prices, and reduce the threat of Russian aggression. Members of the European Parliament thanked Members of Congress for supporting H.R. 351 and H.R. 702, which would modernize our laws governing crude oil and natural gas exports.
“One of the committee’s leading priorities is to pass a substantive energy bill to modernize our laws relating to energy infrastructure and trade. This legislation, known as H.R. 8, the North American Energy Security and Infrastructure Act, has an entire title devoted to energy security and diplomacy," said Chairman Fred Upton (R-MI). “Today, we seek to build upon the work and the relationships we’ve formed with our European colleagues, to help us examine opportunities to strengthen energy security, lower energy prices, and improve economic competitiveness for all of our countries."
