WASHINGTON, DC - House Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade Subcommittee Chairman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX) reached out to the National Football League and the National Football League Players Association late Monday seeking an update on implementation of its policies and procedures relating to domestic violence.
Burgess made the following statement:
“These photos are disturbing. I want the NFL and the Players Association to explain why it’s acceptable for Greg Hardy to still be playing. The Dallas Cowboys pride themselves on being ‘America’s Team,’ and they have an obligation to their fans, players, and families to conduct themselves with the highest professional integrity. The employment of this individual is sending the absolute wrong message on domestic violence.
“The newly released photographs provide a new opportunity to understand and discuss the NFL and NFLPA’s domestic violence policies and how they are being implemented. I look forward to sitting down with both the NFL and NFLPA to better understand this situation and what can be done to ensure that those who put their hands on a woman or child are not rewarded."
