The Subcommittee on Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade, chaired by Rep. Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX), has scheduled a hearing for Thursday, Nov. 19, 2015, at 10:15 a.m. in room 2123 of the Rayburn House Office Building. The hearing is entitled, “The Disrupter Series: The Fast-Evolving Uses and Economic Impacts of Drones."
The subcommittee will continue its work to better understand the way new technologies are disrupting the status quo. Following up on their review of the Internet of Things and the Sharing Economy, members will review the use of drones and the impacts they have for consumers and job creators.
“American drone makers have shown their commitment to innovation in turning what was once seen as science fiction into a reality available to consumers and businesses across the country," said Burgess. “There are many exciting drone applications in various stages of development. Entrepreneurship and innovation are part of this country’s foundation and we should be searching for ways to position the U.S. as a leader in drone technology development."
Burgess continued, “There are, however, legitimate questions about how drones work, what technologies are being developed to ensure the public’s safety and privacy, and how drones could help businesses better serve consumers. Next week’s hearing will give us the opportunity to get answers and to better understand the potential of drones."
The Majority Memorandum, a witness list, and witness testimony will be available here as they are posted.
