#SUBOVERSIGHT HEARING: Top Obamacare Official to Testify on Exchanges NEXT WEEK

The following press release was published by the House Committee on Energy and Commerce on Dec. 1, 2015. It is reproduced in full below.

WASHINGTON, DC - The Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, chaired by Rep. Tim Murphy (R-PA), has scheduled a hearing for Tuesday, December 8, 2015, at 10 a.m. in room 2322 of the Rayburn House Office Building. The hearing is entitled, “An Overdue Checkup Part II: Examining the ACA’s State Insurance Marketplaces." CMS Acting Administrator Andy Slavitt is confirmed to testify before the subcommittee.

Next week’s hearing will be the second part of a two-part series. At Part I, held on Sept. 29, 2015, the subcommittee heard from various state exchange officials to get their feedback on the implementation of the exchanges and what challenges they faced. After the hearing, committee leaders followed up with the state exchanges to get answers to questions that were ignored at the hearing. Part II will focus on the actions CMS is taking to oversee these exchanges.

“With collapsing co-ops, failed state exchanges and dismal enrollment numbers, the so-called Affordable Care Act still leaves far too many families struggling to find affordable health insurance and access to medical care," said Chairman Murphy. “CMS must prove there is a path forward that does not require billions more in taxpayer dollars.

In addition to its oversight over the struggling state exchanges, the subcommittee continues to hold CMS accountable for Obamacare’s failing CO-OP program. Committee leaders last week demanded CMS Acting Administrator Slavitt answer a series of questions about whether or not the CO-OP program is sustainable without federal dollars, and how the federal dollars spent on the failed CO-OPs can be recouped.as they are posted.
