WASHINGTON, DC - House Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Fred Upton (R-MI) and Commerce, Manufacturing, and Trade Subcommittee Chairman Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (R-TX) welcomed today’s announcement by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and leading automakers on a path forward to improve #Safety4Drivers.
“Being from Michigan, we all know that you can never put too much emphasis on safety. Folks in Michigan and across the country have seen too often what can happen when proper measures aren’t in place to protect those who travel on our roads," said Upton. “Today’s announcement builds upon the safety reforms achieved in the recent highway bill, and is a positive step forward. Working together, America can continue to be a leader in keeping families safe on the road and set the standard for global automobile safety practices."
“Consumers should have the confidence that the vehicles they drive are safe, and when they aren’t, that there is a process in place to share information and ensure the appropriate fix is available," added Burgess. “We have heard too many stories of things going wrong. This announcement is a welcome opportunity to build upon our successes and ensure that NHTSA and automakers are working together to improve safety for drivers across the country."
